Meet the Patels from brother-sister filmmakers displaces Malala from top of box office
There is no denying the appeal of Meet the Patels.
The humorous documentary from co-directors and siblings Geeta and Ravi Patel is once again the top non-fiction film at the box office. It swapped positions with He Named Me Malala, Davis Guggenheim's documentary, which had been number one the last three weeks. Patels earned another $82,150 over the weekend, pushing its cume to $1,442,619, according to audience measurement firm Rentrak. Malala dropped to second, bringing in another $61,820 over the weekend. In five weeks of release it has made just under $2.2 mil., Rentrak reported.
Rounding out the top five were A Ballerina's Tale -- the story of prima ballerina Misty Copeland; Heart of a Dog, Laurie Anderson's stirring and imaginative documentary about love, loss and her dog Lolabelle, and Meru, the dramatic tale of three climbers' attempt to scale a forbidding peak in the Himalayas.
