Joshua Oppenheimer's The Look of Silence named runner-up
The Academy Awards are still a ways off, but in the Best Documentary category it's already shaping up as a two-film race.
Asif Kapadia's Amy, about the late singer Amy Winehouse, and Joshua Oppenheimer's The Look of Silence, about the unresolved trauma of the Indonesian genocide of 1965, have been dividing most of the pre-Oscar awards. On Sunday, Amy won Best Documentary at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards. The Look of Silence was named runner-up.
On Saturday night, The Look of Silence won the coveted IDA Award for Best Documentary Feature. Amy was among the other five films nominated.
The Look of Silence also claimed the best doc honor from the Gotham Independent Film Awards last weekend; Amy, meanwhile, won the doc prize from the National Board of Review. |
