South by Southwest programmers and planners are busy working out an immense array of content for the 2018 edition of the conference and festivals. But they took a brief break on Tuesday to entertain SXSW fans in Los Angeles.

The reception took place at Pour Vous on Melrose Avenue, across from the Paramount Studios lot. The venue describes itself as a "Parisian cocktail lounge," and the evening surely did not lack for boissons alcooliques. Several hundred packed in to imbibe and converse in niches suffused in purple hues or pockets of yellow light.

GENTLEMEN - PLEASE WEAR COLLARED, BUTTON DOWN DRESS SHIRTS. COLLARED BUTTON DOWN DRESS SHIRTS MUST BE TUCKED IN. JEANS OR SLACKS ARE FINE. SPORTS COATS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED...

LADIES - COCKTAIL DRESSES AND HEELS ARE ENCOURAGED. DARK PANTS AND AN UPSCALE BLOUSE IS ACCEPTED.

--Details from the Pour Vous dress code
Pour Vous insists on a relatively formal dress code, by LA standards: for the men, no hoodies, baseball caps, sneakers or "t-shirts under jackets" are permitted. For the women, t-shirts, "hooded or crew-necked sweaters, sandals, and flip flops" are a no-go.

The dress code evidently was suspended for the evening, otherwise I would not have gained entry, nor would any number of casually-attired attendees.

Here are some photos from the event (all images by Matt Carey):
