A battle between Jane and Faces Places for no. 1 Two documentaries with Oscar aspirations duked it out at the box office over the Christmas weekend.
In the end Brett Morgen's Jane came out the victor, with a weekend tally of $28,415, according to audience tracker comScore. The film about conservationist and primatologist Jane Goodall has now earned $1,405,133 in 10 weeks of theatrical release. Faces Places, the documentary by Agnès Varda and artist JR, came in second over the holiday weekend. It earned $12,212, pushing its total to $575,844 after 12 weeks of release. Jane and Faces Places have won many of the pre-Oscar documentary awards this year -- from critics groups and other entities -- and both recently made the Oscar doc shortlist of 15 films. |
