The heartbreaking and troubling documentary "Farewell to Hollywood" is set to begin its US theatrical run after playing at film festivals around the world. The film opens Wednesday, Feb. 25 in New York (Cinema Village) and on Friday, March 13th in LA (NoHo 7), with a nationwide release to follow. "Farewell to Hollywood" is described as a "poetic fairytale about love, death, art, holding on and letting go," according to press materials for the film. "Reggie is a 17 year old tomboy struggling with a terminal illness, her parents and her dream of making a film before she dies. Together with director Henry Corra, she has created a powerful portrait of herself and her quest for personal and artistic freedom."
Rolling Stone magazine reports "Live From New York!", a documentary about the 40-year history of Saturday Night Live, will kick off the Tribeca Film Festival on April 14th. From the article: "Directed by Bao Nguyen, the film combines archival footage and interviews with beloved SNL cast members, hosts, crew members as well as journalists, politicians and others who have been influenced by the sketch comedy show."
"The Jinx," a six-part miniseries about accused murderer Robert Durst, debuts on HBO Sunday, Feb. 8. It's directed by Andrew Jarecki, who earned an Oscar nomination for his documentary "Capturing the Friedmans." Watch the trailer here.
"Red Army" from Director Gabe Polsky, tells the story of the Soviet Union's dynastic hockey club, which dominated the world in the twilight of the Cold War. "Ballet 422", directed by Jody Lee Lipes, is the story of a young dancer given a rare opportunity-- to choreograph an original work for the New York City Ballet, the 422nd ballet created for the legendary company. The Oscar-nominated documentary "citizenfour", directed by Laura Poitras, debuts on HBO Monday, Feb. 23rd (the day after the Academy Awards). It's the riveting story of former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, who alerted the world-- through Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald-- to the extent of the NSA's data collection and analysis on people in the US and around the world.
